Mr. Mervin Martin was born in Marion, Alabama on December 10, 1949 to Velma Martin Tubbs and Herman Carter. He departed this earthly life on August 22, 2023.
Mervin attended Mt. Pleasant AME Church with his mother and grandmother. He confessed Christ at an early age. After the death of his mother, Mervin (age 9) was raised by his maternal grandmother, Margaret Jones Martin along with his three siblings, Annie, Grady and Betty. Mervin grew up in a loving and caring family. He spent time in the home with his Aunt Fannie and Uncle AC and their children. Mervin's Uncle Willie, Aunt Reola and Aunt Lucy also assisted in his upbringing and care.
Mervin graduated from East Perry High School in 1968. Mervin joined the Army and after he was discharged he returned to Alabama. He relocated to Cleveland, Detroit and later moved to Cincinnati. Mervin attended trade school and attained a certificate in window installation. He worked as a mechanic until he became ill.
Mervin joined Corinthian Baptist Church. Mervin enjoyed spending the holidays with his nieces and nephews. He usually did all the grilling. Mervin also loved to travel with his sister, Betty, to Alabama to visit with family and friends. Mervin had a unique sense of humor that kept people laughing. His most outstanding talent was his amazing singing voice.
Mervin was preceded in death by his parents, Velma Martin Tubbs and Herman Carter; two daughters, Margaret Brunner and Catherine Leverette; sister, Annie P. Tubbs; brother, Grady Tubbs and his ''Special Lady'', Willie Norris.
Mervin leaves the following to cherish his memory: wife, Mary Martin; two daughters, Sharon (John) Steele and Felicha Martin; son-in-law, Harvey Brunner; stepdaughter, Janell (Anthony) Leverette; stepson, Tevon Martin; 19 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; stepmother, Sue Willie Carter; three sisters, Betty King, Patricia Carter, and Deborah Carter; brother, Norman Carter; four stepsisters, Evelyn, Juanita, Helen and Linda; five stepbrothers, Richard, Robert, David, Bernest, and Curtis; sister-in-law, Betty Tubbs as well as a host of very special nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends including Susie and James Driver.
