James Clark Obituary

It is always difficult to summarize a person’s life in only a few words. A life well-lived is more than just vital statistics or facts recorded in a document.  Therefore, the family has decided to look at James’ life the way God looks at it rather than the way people look at it.   According to I Samuel 16:7, people look at the outer things, but God looks upon the heart.

Although he wasn’t famous, James Lee Clark definitely touched the lives of those around him.  Anyone who really knew James can attest to the fact that he had the heart of a servant. James was the kind of person everyone could always count on.  Whenever his grandchildren or his many nieces or nephews ran out of gas or their car broke down, James would always be there in the rain or in the snow or in the middle of the night. He was the person everyone called when they needed a ride to work, a flat tire fixed, help moving or help with a host of other problems.

In addition to serving his family, James also faithfully served his church community.  Whether he was patrolling the parking lot, packing candy for a Halleluiah fest or checking on a burglar alarm at the church, James showed up and served with a smile. He tirelessly and unselfishly gave to anyone who needed him. In his simple, modest way, James faithfully demonstrated what Jesus meant when he told his disciples that by serving the least of these you are actually serving me. Although much more could be said about how James served, these are a few of the reasons why this kind, gentle, humble man will be deeply missed by all of those who knew him.

James Lee Clark was born to the late Margaret Greenlee Clark and the late Elzie Andrew Clark on March 13, 1942, as Jimmy Lee Clark in Haran County, Kentucky. James was preceded in death by his wife Gale Clark, his son Jimmy Lee Clark, Jr., his brothers Otis Clark, Eugene Clark, Cecil Clark, Thomas Clark, Michael Jones and Willie Jones.  James is survived by his children: Denise Gaines, Damon Campbell Clark (Latonya Butler), Kimberly James and Kendall L Clark (Aston Clark), along with his stepchildren Beverly Campbell, Deborah Campbell, Stephanie Campbell and Jacqueline Zander. He is also survived by his brothers Robert Jones, Johnny Jones, his sisters Eleanor Jones and Mary Alice Jones as well as his loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins plus a host of friends who will always cherish his memory.
