Ernest R. White

Ernest Roosevelt White was born on March 26, 1941 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the union of Ernest Hawkins and Ozell White.  He departed this life on June 21, 2023 into the arms of The Lord.

Ernest, affectionately called “Ernie” by family and friends, grew up in Cincinnati and attended Cincinnati Public Schools.  After graduating from Taft High School, he was hired by the former Shillito’s Department Store as a dock worker.  During his 30-year employment, he rose in the ranks to Operation Manager of the docks and also managed some other departments.  He retired from the Shillito’s in the early 90s.  

He married Irene Westbrook in 1969 and their union was blessed with one son, Christopher White.   Ernie was a quiet man who enjoyed family, watching old western movies and spending time with life-long friends.  He was generous with his time, willing to help others and in tolerate of nonsense.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Ozell White on November 8, 2011;  two uncles, James and Aaron Dawkins and an aunt, Rosemary White.

His memory will forever be cherished by his son, Christopher (Tomeko) White of Cincinnati; former wife, Irene Westbrook; four grandchildren, Christopher Jr., Duante, Samantha and
Dana; five great-grandchildren , Jeremiah, Jascion, Christopher III and Amaria; cousin, Jimmy Dawkins, along with a host of other family and friends.
