Clem, as known by friends and family, graced the earth for 86 years. During this time, her living spirit blessed many. She had a quiet, reserved, and regal soul.
Born in Asheville, North Carolina to Rachel Gray she was raised together with her grandmother Hallie Nesbitt. She attended Stevens Lee High School. She was a young wife and mother to Anthony, Veronica (passed in 1996), and Claybon. While her first husband, Thomas Baker, studied mortuary science, she considered becoming a nurse. She graduated from Sinclair College as an LPN and finally settled in Cincinnati, Ohio.
She started her career at Longview Psychiatric Hospital, later working for the State of Ohio Psychiatric Services, and later McAuley Convent. She was passionate about mental health, the elderly, and the spirit of others. She was active in her Catholic faith. She served as a Eucharistic Minister, and Mass Coordinator. Also served on the bereavement, caring community, health ministry, and twinning teams at St. Anthony’s Church in Madisonville where she was a member for over 30 years. Multiple times she traveled to Dominica on mission trips and fell in love with the people. Clem was a joy to be around. She truly knew how to have a good time and entice others with a good time. She knew beauty, style, good music, her way around the kitchen, serenity, and strength. She knew people. She loved culture and engaged in the arts. She was a dog, plant, dolphin, and horror film lover. Her favorite was The Thing. She didn’t tolerate nonsense or settle for less. She illuminated grace.
Later she gained extended family Natalie, Michelle, Cynthia, Arric, Diana (passed in 2020), and Miriam from her second husband, Sam Allmond,
In addition to her children, she will be forever honored by her closest grandchildren Alexandria (Caleb Sr.), Aaron, Tamera, Clay II (passed 2007) and Mariah; great-grands Caleb II, Kennedy, Titus, Ameerah, and Alexander.
She also leaves behind her first grandchild LaToya of North Carolina; grandsons Tony of North Carolina, Xavier and Dashiell of Florida; great-grands Trajean, Clay III, Jasean, Jaquan, Honesty, and Waverly. Great friends including Joy Middleton, neighbors, friends in Dominica, old St. Anthony church family, work friends from McAuley Convent, special people in the lives of her children, and other extended family.
