Carl Reid

Carl Emanuel Reid’s sun rose April 27, 1958, and set February 25, 2023.  His father and mother preceded him in death along with his two older sisters, Georgia Mae and Harriett Latrell.

Carl attended Cincinnati Public Schools and graduated from Withrow High School in 1977.  As a Withrow Tiger, he was fortunate enough to share the court with two future NBA players: Louis Orr and Lasalle Thompson. He was “hooping” with the big boys. Carl was floating on air!!! Many of his basketball skills stemmed from him playing with his older brother, George. They were always being challenged with a friendly game of “One-On-One” by the “boys in the hood”.  Carl LOVED it. He knew that with his big brother being the coach/player, NOT winning, NEVER crossed his mind!!

Carl worked at Ashley Ward in Mason, Ohio for over 30 years, initially as a Machine Operator.  The company was so impressed at how quickly he learned their process regarding: machine maintenance, operating multiple machines and methods used to increase the company’s productivity. Within a couple of years, he was promoted to Senior Machine Operator where he was responsible for training new and existing employees in increasing productivity, producing quality products and proper machine maintenance. Carl received many certificates of excellent job performance including bonus stipends along the way.

Carl’s momma was his Queen. When she became ill and had to permanently reside in a skilled nursing facility, he NEVER missed a day visiting with her.  Carl would “pop” up (at the facility) various hours of the night and day making sure she was receiving proper care. When he saw issues regarding her care, he would become very agitated and had NO PROBLEM letting staff know what he and the family expected. Many times, he would stay until the issue had been addressed and rectified. Ms. Georgia had her OWN Knight in Shining Armor. Carl was 6’4, if you didn’t know him, his voice tone and facial expressions could be somewhat intimidating.  He really was a gentle giant.  That was our Carl.     
                                 
In 1987, he married Gloria, the love of his life.  He thought the world of her, and she thought the world of him. One of their favorite outings was weekend trips to the various Casinos in Indiana. Gloria passed away in 2018.

Carl leaves to cherish his memory, his brother George, sister Iris and brother Gene (Tracy); nieces and nephews: Antoine, Atiya, Natasha, Brianna and Jelani; great nieces and nephews: Jahmal, Jabari, Rasheeda, Ingeel and Zion, along with a host of cousins and friends.
