Bernice Stiggers-Reeves was born in Cincinnati Ohio to parents Paul and Arbelia Stiggers on September 25, 1931 and is the second oldest to over 22 siblings.
Bernice married Johnny Lloyd Edwards and had 5 children. She worked many years in the medical field as a nurse’s assistant and after leaving the medical field she allowed her love for travel to take her to California where she created a life for herself for many years. She also resided in Reno Nevada before returning home to Cincinnati in 1979. She came back to care for her family and grandchildren.
Bernice was affectionately known as Sis. She was a loving and passionate person who didn’t take no mess. She was glamourous and loved her many hair styles and makeup. She would not leave the house without being ‘Hollywood-ready’. In a nutshell Sis was a ‘whole vibe’. Her essence could light up an entire room and her spirit was free as a bird. She was genuinely funny which made her even more funny because she wasn’t trying to make you laugh, she was trying to make her point. She sure could make up some names for folk who got on her bad side and the spunk in which she’d deliver those names would have you holding your side from laughing so hard. She created so many memories and will surely be missed!
Sis was preceded in death by her parent, Paul and Arbelia Stiggers, daughter Sandra Mines, grandchild Varian Mines and siblings: Chico Stiggers, Carrie Luckett, Tommie-Lee Stiggers, Robert Stiggers, Josephine Carr, Arbelia Duncan and Angie Stiggers.
Sis is survived by her children: Pauline Edwards, Kerry Edwards, Johnny Edwards, and Wendell Edwards. Grandchildren: Arletta Edwards, Malinda Edwards, Malissa Edwards, Michael Mines, Naketa Mines and Rickey Mines. A host of great and great-great grandchildren. Siblings Paul Stiggers Sr, Erie Mae Kesler, Nathaniel Stiggers, James Stiggers.
