Walter Madison Washington entered this life on September 12, 1954, in Columbus, OH to the union of General Walter Washington and Louise Powell Washington. He was the second oldest of five boys. He was preceded in death by his Parents, and his brothers Winston Washington and William Washington, MD. He departed this life on January 8, 2026, in Cincinnati, OH.
Walter (who we lovingly called Jun) was educated in the Columbus Public School System and was a graduate of Eastmoor Academy which was known for its strong athletics and arts programs, including AP course work. As Walter excelled in academics, he attended Ohio State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Walter also completed Law School. While pursuing his degrees, he worked for many years in the hospitality industry in corporate higher management.
Walter pursued a relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. During his young years he attended Brentnell Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith in Columbus, OH where he was baptized in Jesus’ name and received the gift of the Holy Ghost. Walter was married to Denazie Garrett of Cincinnati, OH and to this union three children were born, Vashti, Leah, and Walter Washington. For a while he moved to the Virgin Islands to become an inspiring author. However, it wasn’t long before he relocated back to Cincinnati to be near his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He referred to his children as his “Grown-Ups.” Walter had a gift for writing and wrote many articles for the Cincinnati Herald in early 2000. In 2021 he became the publisher of the Cincinnati Herald and retired as a writer. His proud moment was establishing Katura Laboratory Mobile Phlebotomy Services in Cincinnati, OH providing laboratory services for the elite community in the Tri-State, for his daughter, Leah Washington.
Walter loved his children and grandchildren more than anything. He never left a conversation without reminding them of how much he loved them and how proud he was of them. He loved hanging out with his grandchildren. He spent time taking them to get pizza, and he loved coming to the house for Sunday dinners. He always supported Elijah during his basketball season and showed so much love to everyone.
Walter leaves to cherish fond and loving memories, two daughters Vashti (Harold) Carson, Leah Washington and one son, Walter Washington. Nine grandchildren, Joshua Carson, Jacob Carson, and Serene Carson, Jeremiah (Katie) Murphy, LaRiyah Moss, Malaiyah Moss, Elijah Moss, Isaiah Washington, and London Washington. Two great-grandchildren, Malanni Grier-Moss and Malon Grier-Moss. Two brothers Lowell “Low” (Cassandra) Washington and Larence “Larry” Washington. Two uncles, Rueben Washington and Donald (Shirlean) Washington. One aunt, Lavona Allen; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
