Ruth Virginia Penn Davis, "Ginger", was the first daughter born to the union of Ambrose Penn and Ruth Dandridge. Her parents and younger sister, Elizabeth Penn Carter preceded her in death.

Virginia was educated in the Cincinnati Public Schools, graduating from Hughes High School. After graduation she attended the University of Cincinnati for three years. Following her junior year she married the love of her life, Horace Davis August 25, 1940. After eight years of marriage, one much wanted and loved daughter, Ruth Marguerite (Taffy) was born.

Ginger was a stay at home mom, volunteering for several organizations such as cancer, polio, and heart funds. Ginger was an active member of Carmel Presbyterian Church for the majority of her life, teaching both Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Ginger was a talented knitter and began weekly knitting classes with a group of seniors she met through her involvement with North Avondale's Senior Citizen's Group. For years, she would knit children's sweaters to give to the Freestore. Additionally, she knitted and gifted winter scarves for friends, family, and those individuals who extended their kindness to her.

Not only was she involved in voluneering and helping others, she had an active social life as a member of the the Drifters, Inc, N.N.C.'s Bridge Club, and Sunday Night Supper Club.

Honesty, integrity, and respect are the basic values she instilled in her daughter and grandson, Austin Vere Davis Plummer. Her warm spirit and friendly attitude was shared with family, friends and those she met along the way.
