IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rosemary
Gary
December 3, 1926 – August 14, 2022
Rosemary "Chick" Gary was born on December 3, 1926 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the union of Katie and Roosevelt Hicks. She departed this life, surrounded by her loving family, on August 14, 2022 in the comfort of her home.
She grew up in Cincinnati and attended Cincinnati Public Schools. Following her high school graduation, Rosemary enrolled in a special nurses program at the former Longview Hospital. She completed the nursing program and became a certified Registered Practical Nurse (LPN).
Rosemary married William Gary on November 29, 1945. The couple's 72 years of marriage was blessed with six children: William Jr., Yvonne, Robert, Bernard, Denise and Kenneth. Rosemary mastered the art of being a working mother. Years later, she also opened and operated a successful daycare center. However, she always made her family the center of her life.
This very special lady enjoyed cooking, shopping, gardening and decorating. She loved to throw parties in the Gary's home on Wess Park Drive, which also earned her a second nickname… "BELL OF THE BALL." The death of her mother Katie on Christmas forever changed how she decorated the house for the holidays. Rosemary channeled her grief into creating a magical "Santaland" for her children and family…a memory they continue to cherish.
She was an outgoing, gracious woman who never met a stranger. She also extended her love of children beyond her family and became a surrogate mother to countless of young people. She will be greatly missed by her family and the many friends and patients she touched throughout her journey.
She was preceded in death by her husband William; her children , Bernard and Kenneth Gary; her parents, Katie and Roosevelt Hicks and three brothers, Charlie, Dewey and Clifford Hicks.
Rosemary's memory will forever be cherished by her children: William (Ruth) Gary Jr., Yvonne (Daniel) Driessen, Robert (Nancy) Gary and Denise Gary; grandchildren, Sylvester, Robert Jr., Bernard Jr, Dominique, April, Devon, Amber, Byron, Deanna ; a host of great-grandchildren and very special sister-in-law, Ipa Spalding along with a host of nieces, nieces, other relatives and friends.
