Obituary

Celebrating His Spirit Robert Kenneth Jones Jr. 74, was born on January 10, 1942 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the union of Evelyn and Dr. Robert Kenneth Jones Sr. He departed this life, like a rainbow fading in the twinkle of an eye, on Oct. 26, 2016 in the comfort of his home. Kenneth, affectionately known to family and friends as "Kenny," attended Cincinnati Public Schools, graduating from Hughes High School in the early 1960s. He was baptized at the former Wehrman Avenue Christian Church. Kenney spent many years attending St Andrews Episcopal Church, where served as an acolight during his youth. He furthered his education at Central State University. He returned to Cincinnati and started his career at Cincinnati Bell Telephone, where he enjoyed a variety of responsibilities during his 35-year tenure, retiring in 2001. Kenny was the oldest of the Jones' two sons. He grew up in a loving home and earned a reputation for being an outstanding swimmer and long-distance runner. Kenny was always proud of earning the distinguished title of being a member of Idle Wild Michigan's "Shark Team." Kenny earned the title during the family's frequent trips to the Michigan resort, by swimming from one side of the Idle Wild Lake to the other. In high school he ran hurdles on the school's track team. Kenny returned to running competitively in his late 60s and enjoyed winning several trophies and ribbons in senior events. He was a treasured funeral attendant and driver for Renfro Funeral Service for nearly 16 years. He was well known and well liked throughout his life. Kenny was out going, dependable and earned a reputation for always being stylishly dressed. He attracted a multitude of friends --working the door at the former Viking Lounge and traveling coast to coast to attend sporting events. Kenny treasured his friendship with the late Muhammed Ali, whom he met through his love of boxing. Kenny met his future wife Patricia Major in 1989. The couple enjoyed a 10-year love affair before marrying in 1999. They enjoyed traveling, attending jazz concerts and в?¦being happy. Kenny was passionate about anything he enjoyed and people he cared about. He was a loyal friend and used Facebook to stay connected to friends-and children of friends--throughout the country. Kenny was also a mentor to several young men. He willingly served as a father figure, freely giving of himself, counseling and providing direction when needed. He was preceded in death by his beloved brother Ronnie; his parents, Evelyn and Dr. R. Kenneth Jones Sr.; his uncles, Paul Jones and uncle, William "Lawless" Jones; his aunt, Elise Weaver Bellinger and cousins, Pat Charlton and Valmo Bellinger. His fun, loving spirit will always be remembered and treasured by his wife, Pat; cousins, Dr. Paul Jones and Robert Jones of Cincinnati and Charlie Bellinger Bethea of Houston, TX; Kenny and Royal Weaver Jr. of Baltimore, Md. He will also be dearly missed by multitudes of friends from coast to coast who considered him "family.
