IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Raymond Stubbs
Payne
October 11, 1931 – June 16, 2024
Raymond Stubbs Payne was born on October 11, 1931 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the union of Norman and Mary Elizabeth (nee Brown) Payne. He departed this life surrounded by the love of his family, on June 16, 2024, into the arms of the Lord.
Raymond grew up in Cincinnati and attended Catholic schools most of his life. He graduated from St. Martin DePorres High School in the West End and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Xavier University in 1953. He married Mary Theresa Darling, who proceeded him in death in 2017, on December 29, 1956. Their 60-year union was blessed with five children, Ramona, Reginald, Norman, Michael and Terence. He served honorably in the United States Army prior to a long career in research and organization development. Raymond retired from Procter and Gamble in 1993 and continued as a consultant with numerous organizations after retiring.
Raymond was an active member in his parish, particularly at St. Andrews, formerly in Avondale, where he had been parish council president, and ran the food kitchen for many years. He enjoyed cooking and feeding people, and saw it as his ministry to serve those who needed support. His faith was essential to his character and formed the basis for how he lived, he was a true servant leader. He loved jazz and spent many evenings listening to music while playing logic puzzles on the back patio. He also enjoyed the tranquility of the Hilton Head home that he had with Mary. He missed her dearly when she passed, but remained a loving father to their children, was a patient listener and had great advice.
Raymond will always be missed, but his love and wisdom will remain with those who knew him, especially his children, Ramona Payne (Anthony Fitts) of South Bend, IN, Reginald (Sandra Cole), of Hudson, NH, Norman (Ella) of Cincinnati, OH, Michael (Yolanda) Payne of Cincinnati, OH, and Terence (Michele) of Columbus, OH; his grandchildren, Helena Payne Chauvenet (Nicholas Chauvenet), Langston Fitts, Malcolm Fitts, Jerry Nicholson (Erica), LaMont Nicholson, LaToya Maynard, Michael Payne, Tiffany Phillips, Jermaine Watts (Sigourney), and Jasmin Payne. Raymond will also be missed by his great-grandchildren, including Sonia, Maya, Jaden, Michael, Noura, Makiyah and many other dear great-grandchildren; his sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Ronald Richardson; nieces, Maria Brooks, Regina Payne, and Tamara Richardson; nephews, Michael Brooks, Raymond Payne, Roderick Payne, and Kevin Richardson; Donna and John Forte; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
