Celebrating Her Spirit Nancy Lee Adkins Thomas was born on November 23, 1934 to the union of the late Howard and Floretta Adkins. Nancy, surrounded by the love of her family, went home to be with The Lord on April 7, 2019. Nancy, the eldest of seven children, grew up in Addyston, Ohio. She attended Addyston Elementary School and graduated from Taylor High School, North Bend, Ohio. As a teenager, Nancy joined Phillips Chapel CME Church, under the leadership of Rev. Maxwell. She was a faithful and active member for more than 70 years. During the early 1950s, Nancy met and married James Thomas Sr. Their union was blessed with six children. Nancy was outgoing and enjoyed helping others. Her nurturing spirit was showered on family and friends. Nancy enjoyed hosting her annual Birthday Service, which was one of the biggest highlights since it was held close to her birthday. She gave all the funds to help pay off Phillips Chapel Addyston's conference claims. Nancy also enjoyed taking on many jobs and projects throughout her years, including a job as nutritional director for Addyston School. But her largest role was her devotion to God and to her family. She was preceded in death by her husband James Louis Thomas Sr; her oldest son, James Louis Thomas Jr; oldest grandchild, Jeffrey Lynn Thomas Jr; her sisters, Charlotte Adkins Hodge, Violet (Jean) Adkins Coleman, Pansy Adkins Williams and her brother, Howard (Butch) Adkins Jr. Her memory will forever be cherished by her children, Jeffrey (Lori), Nathaniel, Linda (Ray), Rose and Christopher. Her sisters, Rose Adkins Baker of Los Angeles, CA and Ruby Adkins Thomas of Dayton, OH. 10 grandchildren, Michael Jr., Tara, Ashley, Aisha, David B., Malika, Emily, Brian, Sydney and David H.; nine great-grandchildren, Ja-Shaun, Jayden, Jeremiah, Asia, Michael III, Kennedy, Malikai, Thomas and Haley.
