Obituary

Minnie L. Murray (nee Stewart) was born on August 19, 1934, to the union of the late James Stewart and Katie Thompson Stewart of Hancock County of Sparta, Georgia.  She was preceded in death by her 3 siblings, Leola Wilcher, Willie Otis and Clarence Stewart.

Minnie transitioned from her earthly tabernacle to her heavenly home on Sunday, February 5, 2023.  She sweetly answered the Master's call at 3:55 a.m.  Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.  (Psalm 116:15).

She accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Hickory Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Sparta under the leadership of Rev. E.R. McClendon.  She attended Hickory Grove Elementary School and L.S. Ingram High School.

Minnie was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life, the late James B. Murray, Sr. on October 21, 1950; to this union ten children were born.  She was blessed with grace and favor to see 5 generations of her bloodline.  During the course of her life she had a great love for family.  Her home was filled with love, and she opened her home to many "adopted" children.  At any given time, you could find 30 kids that were not her own playing in the yard.

Minnie moved to Cincinnati, Ohio on March 9, 1956.  She united with the New Life Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. E.D. Thompson, then served under Rev. W.D. Billups, and recently the current leadership of Rev. Donald E. Garrett Jr. faithfully until death.  Minnie worked and served tirelessly in many capacities in the church: she sang in the Inspirational Choir, served as Jr. Choir Supervisor, Ministers & Deacons Wives, Women's Day (which she loved) serving as the treasurer for many years, Pastor's Aide Auxiliary, and Culinary (known as a "Kitchen Mechanic").  She was loved by many; you often found a line of people after church waiting for their hug.

Minnie was a compassionate and giving person who extended a heart of love and a helping hand to anyone in need.  She had a love for helping the elderly.  Many days you would find her doing their hair in her kitchen, helping Seniors with their personal affairs, or just feeding them a hot meal.  Her home was known as "A Community House"

Family was her priority; she was always surrounded by her children and grandchildren who adored her.  Anyone that knew her, knows that she was a home maker who sacrificed and made provisions to ensure a good life for her family.  She instilled the love of Jesus in her Family.  She was employed by West College Hill Neighborhood Services under the War on Poverty Program, founded by Sargent Shriver. She was later employed by Cook United Corporation who owned Ontario's and Rinks Department Stores. She retired in 1984 to baby sit her grandchildren.

She leaves to cherish her memory:  her 10 children, Geraldine (Robert) Jones, Robert (Donna), Everett Leon (Regina), Mary Ann (Leon) Fitzgerald, Barbara (Maurice) Graves, Loretta (Byron, Sr.) Keeling, Marie Murray, Cathy (Marvin Sr.) Dailey; James, Jr. (Shawnetta), Keith (Brandy) and, 26 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 4 Great-great-grandchildren, a devoted cousin, Charles Murray, 3 sisters-in-law, Lillie Pearl Stewart, Annie Pearl Murray, Christine Murray and a host of relatives and many dear friends.
