Mildred Louise Harris, 92, was born to the union of Thomas and Viola Hudson in Philadelpa, PA on June 17, 1924. She departed this life on Aug. 25, 2016.
Mildred moved to Cincinnati with her parents at a young age. She attended Cincinnati Public Schools, graduating from the old Woodward High School. She furthered her education by enrolling in the East Vocational School, where she obtained certification for her license as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
She met her future husband, Harold Tolliver in high school. The couple married in 1942 and their union was blessed with one child, Harold S. Tolliver. Her first job as a nurse was at Jewish Hospital. Throughout her career she worked at various hospitals, including private duty nursing for several years. Her last position was at University Hospital, where she retired after 17 years of service.
Mildred, who loved to travel, was a member of the Les Chic's Road Runners, where she enjoyed traveling throughout the country and the comraderie with the other women. She joined Zion Baptist Church in the early 60s. Mildred was a member of the Nurses Guild, a missionary group
Mildred fell in love with shopping at an early age. As a teenager, she worked as the elevator operator at Gidding Jennings, and later worked various jobs at Henry Harris. She often joked that she could not afford to buy a car because of her shopping!
She was blessed with an outgoing personality and a great sense of humor. She loved people and especially enjoyed the friendships of young people. Mildred, a great conversationalist and dancer, enjoyed "learning" throughout her life. She was a wonderful cook and earned a reputation for her salmon croquettes and home-made pies. She lived life to the fullest.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Viola Hudson; cousins, Viola and Johnny Richardson.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Harold S. Tolliver; dear cousins, Betty Ann Gibson, Matilda Richardson and Jean Richardson, Carl Richardson and Peaches Richardson. She will also be remembered by the many people she lovingly cared for as a nurse throughout her career.
