Marion Ball was born March 7, 1923 to William R. Brown, Sr. and Leona Brown in Cincinnati, Ohio. She passed quietly on May 23, 2014 surrounded by her family.
She accepted Christ at an early age and joined St. Stephens A.M.E. Church where she was a member of the Gospel choir and many other boards. Marion faithfully tithe and supported St. Stephens all of her life.
Marion graduated from Hughes High School and later The Seton School of Nursing. She began her nursing career at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Most of her nursing career was spent at Good Samaritan Hospital where she retired in 1986.
For many years, she was active in the civil rights movement, supporting her husband in organizations such as SNCC, Core and the NAACP. Marion continued to demonstrate that she was a trail blazer in the community as co-owner of a black business, The Thatched Roof, unlike other black businesses during this era, was not a beauty shop or restaurant. Marion was known for her fine tailoring of Afrocentric garments and handmade jewelry.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents William and Leona Brown; five sisters, Margaret, Cleo, Louise, Doris, Mary Frances and Yvonne; and two brothers, Williams and Cedric.
To cherish her memory, she leaves her children; son, Jamil Muhammad (Chip) and daughter, Sharrieffah Muhammad (Stephanie-Dete), and son-in-law, Sharrieff; grandchildren, Kamilah (Darren), Joshua Leonard, Carmen, Miriam (Akeem), Leonard Jamil, Naheemah, Rashad, Sherice Jr., Ih'san, Imani, Sabir, Maryam, Samad, Al Najim, William Jr. (Shawnte), and Valencia (Dwayne); great grandchild, Asa'(Sonny); and special daughters, Najimah (Karen) and Jamillah (Angie).
