Biography of Lucas Ngu Muela

Lucas N. Muela was born on April 22, 1954, in Busumbu (Mile 4), Victoria, West Cameroon. He was the first son of the late Papa Simon S. Muela and the late Mami Catherine Nkeing, both of whom were from Mbo land in Melong Subdivision, Littoral Region of Cameroon.

Lucas began his education at the Catholic School in Bonadikombo (Mile 4). He later gained admission to Cameroon Baptist Academy in Muyuka for his secondary education and subsequently attended Cameroon College of Commerce (CCC) in Kumba for his high school studies.

After completing his education, Lucas traveled to Benin City, Nigeria, where he began working for an oil and gas company. During his time in Nigeria, he also became a key player for the famous Bendel Insurance Football Club. In one memorable match, Lucas scored the winning goal that helped keep Bendel Insurance at the top of Nigerian soccer that year. In recognition of his outstanding performance, he was presented with an “Apaga” pair of trousers and a pair of “Salamanda” shoes.

Lucas’s years in Nigeria were not without hardship. In 1980, he was involved in a devastating motor vehicle accident in which everyone else in the vehicle perished, while Lucas miraculously survived. The accident left a lasting physical reminder, as his left hand was permanently affected. Following this tragedy, and after the death of his father in 1981, Lucas made the courageous decision to travel to the United States to pursue further studies.

He arrived in Cincinnati, Ohio, in August 1981, and ultimately made the city his home for the remainder of his life. He embarked on a career in finance and business administration and, throughout the years, developed meaningful and lasting relationships within the Cincinnati community. Lucas loved Cincinnati deeply. He often shared his desire to return to Cameroon one day, but he wanted first to ensure that his son, Ngalle, would grow into a responsible man before making that move. Sadly, his declining health and the loss of several beloved family members eventually made that dream impossible.

Lucas was a devoted son, a loving father, and the patriarch of the Muela family. He was known for his infectious laughter, insatiable curiosity, gentle kindness, and genuine concern for others. He worked tirelessly to preserve the unity of his family and maintain the bonds he shared with friends and everyone whose life he touched.

Lucas later faced serious kidney problems, and there were times when his family and friends feared that they might lose him. Through the generosity of a selfless kidney donor, however, Lucas was given a second chance at life. His journey through kidney failure and multiple treatment regimens took a significant physical toll, but he faced each challenge with remarkable courage and resilience.

During those difficult years, his family and friends rallied around him, making sure that he was never alone and that he received the care and companionship he needed. Even when he was at his weakest, Lucas continued to show extraordinary grace and concern for those around him. His uplifting spirit remained strong, and he continued to offer a comforting smile, a listening ear, and words of encouragement even on his hardest days.

Following his kidney transplant, Lucas regained much of his independence and strength. He was able to resume many of the activities he enjoyed and, remarkably, often appeared stronger than many of those around him. For this reason, his passing on June 8, 2026, came as a profound shock to his son, his family, his friends, and the wider community.

Lucas leaves behind a legacy of immense love, quiet strength, perseverance, and kindness. He is survived by his beloved son, Ngalle Muela; several siblings; nieces and nephews; cousins; extended family members; and a multitude of friends and loved ones. Those who knew him now carry the responsibility of preserving his memory and continuing the values of compassion, unity, generosity, and kindness that defined his life.

Lucas fought many battles throughout his life, yet he remained resilient, loving, and faithful. His life was a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the importance of family, friendship, and faith.
