Obituary

Jean Stella Wilson (née Arnold, formerly McGee) was born on February 4, 1938, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the eldest daughter of Eugene Arnold and Francis Espy. She passed away peacefully at Maple Knoll Village on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at the age of 86.

Jean was a lifelong resident of Cincinnati and a proud graduate of Hughes High School.

In 1957, Jean married Oliver George McGee Jr., and their union was blessed with three children: Oliver George III, Brenda Denise, and Sharon (Sherry). After their marriage ended in 1970, Jean later found love again with George Wilson. The two were married on May 9, 1992, and enjoyed over 30 years of a joyful union filled with travel, community involvement, sports, and cherished family outings. Together, they worshiped faithfully as members of Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church in Forest Park, Ohio.

Jean retired from the University of Cincinnati in the early 2000s after a dedicated career.

Today, we celebrate the life of Jean Stella Wilson, a woman of timeless beauty, sophisticated style, and unwavering grace. Her elegant fashion sense, expansive knowledge, and warm, friendly nature left a lasting impression on all who knew her. A woman of remarkable strength and perseverance, Jean's love for travel and her ability to forge deep, meaningful connections made her a true powerhouse. She was deeply loved and admired by many and cultivated a wide circle of friends within the Cincinnati community.

Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Wilson (2023); her son, Oliver George McGee III (2020); her daughter, Sharon (Sherry) McGee (2015); her parents, Eugene Arnold Sr. and Francis Espy; her siblings, Rosemary Espy, Susanne Espy, Robert Espy, Larry Espy, and Wendell Reid; her nephews Larry and Francis Espy, as well as many of her extended Arnold family members (aunts and uncles Eva, Mary, Willa, Beatrice, Effie, Edward, Lewis, Howard, William, Harry) and cherished first cousins Charles Edwards, Linda Bates Parker, Ralph Bates, and Breland Parker.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving daughter, Brenda McGee of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren, Leslie Gaines, Sa-Leemah (Daniel) Cunningham, Emani Jihad, and Nailah Edwards; her brother, Eugene "Yogi" (Deborah) Arnold; nephew, Brandon Arnold and many other nieces and nephews; stepchildren, Derek (Geraldine) Wilson, Brian (Brad Englund) Wilson, and Ariana (Tony) Robinson; along with a host of relatives, her church family, and dear friends.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Jean's Life will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024. Visitation with the family will begin at 5:00 p.m., followed by the service at 6:00 p.m., at Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church, 10998 Southland Road, Cincinnati, OH 45240.
