It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Ida Mae “May Apple” Clark, who departed this life in her home peacefully on June 20, 2026, at the beautiful age of 85 in Cincinnati Ohio. She was a cherished mother, a cherished wife, a grandmother, a great grandmother, an aunt, a sister, a teacher, and friend.
Born on September 10, 1940, in Stonega, Virginia, Ida was the daughter of James and Thelma Southerland. She was the eighth of nine children. A loving sister in the family of two girls and seven boys. Ida lived a full life of love, great accomplishments, life changing achievements and unwavering dedication. She touched the lives of countless people through her work as a teacher, choir director, entrepreneur, philanthropist, songstress, actress, traveling enthusiast and much more. Always bringing knowledge and wisdom to those around her, Ida had a remarkable way of reaching people in a deep, meaningful, and positive way.
Ida M. Clark had a wide-ranging legacy of achievements and contributions. Here are a few of the many reasons we remember our Queen with honor and gratitude: Millvale Council, Honor’s Day Program for First Baptist of Cumminsville; Old Ship of Zion Program at First Baptist of Cumminsville; Volunteer for Boys and Girls Scouts; Writer and starred in The Poor Beggar play; Pulpit Aid for First Baptist of Cumminsville; Worked at Bru Bramble at 17; Community Organizer in English Woods; Worked at Millvale Elementary School with special-learning children; Worked at Carson Elementary; Worked at Revlon; Board of Elections; Cincinnati Employment Office; a member of The Blue Star Mothers Chapter 64, Ohio; an original member of the HOPE Squad, and last but not least, the Creator of Ida’s Daycare.
She also shared her extraordinary musical gifts with may groups, including: Orange Crush Band; James Brown’s Inspirational Singer’s; Donnie McClurkin; Phil Brown; Uncle Russell and the Kinfolks; Greater Cincinnati Choral Union; NU Family; Peace & Serenity; Gospel Music Workshop; First Baptist of Cumminsville Mass Choir; Co-Creator of The Little Angels Gospel Choir; Millvale Youth and Adult Choir. In addition Ida would sing around town with her son TC bands which includes the Mojo Blues Cats. Ida is the Executive Producer for Legendary Nate White, and current Razzberry White Musical Project
Ida is preceded in death by her beloved husband Eugene Clark, and her loving son David Clark whose memories she carried in her heart throughout her life.
Ida is survived by her loving children: Anthony Clark, Eugene J. Clark, Angela Choate (Frank), Denise White, Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also, her sister Elaine Southerland and brothers Thomas R. Southerland and Robert Lee Sutherland (Shirley).
They will honor her memories with love, gratitude, and cherished stories.
