IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Fulton Oliver
Jefferson, Sr.
February 11, 1936 – March 21, 2025
Fulton Oliver Jefferson Sr., known by many as "The Other Deacon," was the 12th child born February 11, 1936 in Prescott, Arkansas to the late Obie Jefferson and Dora Rochell Jefferson.
He arrived in Cincinnati, Ohio's East End in 1956, where he met his life--long love, the late Gussie Bell Jefferson. The couple married April 4, 1958 and became the proud parents of Fulton Jr, Dora, Darlene and Robert Wayne.
He worked and supported his family as a truck driver for Checkers; then as a manager of Checkers Store in Walnut Hills. He later became a machinist at OPW Dover until he retired.
His spiritual journey as a Deacon was shared at Galilee Baptist Church, Rockdale Baptist Church and New Nazarene Baptist Church and many other churches in the Cincinnati area. He recently attended the Second Baptist Church near his home in Bond Hill. His love for music was displayed in his ministry while at church and in his daily life. He continued the legacy of his wife "Mother Jefferson" as the "Other Deacon" every Wednesday on WAIF Radio 88.3 FM for the last 20 years.
He was a man of few words but great actions. His favorite words included: "Let the works I do speak for me" and "If I can help somebody as I pass this way, then my living shall not be in vain!"
He is survived by his four children, Fulton Jr, Dora (Michael), Darlene and Robert Wayne; his brother, Thomas (Minnie) Jefferson of Cincinnati, OH and his sister Ollie Grigsby of Detroit, MI.; eight grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great- nieces, great- nephews; a very dear friend, Nancy Foster and a loving extended family, Godson Todd O'Neal and spiritual daughters, Darlene Wilkins, Michelle Christian, Wendy Tyler, Jacqueline Johnson and numerous others who had a "special" place in his heart.
