Carolyn Walker was born March 27th, 1943, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Rev. T.R. Murff and Mother Edna Magee. She attended the Indianapolis Public School System and graduated from Arsenal Technical High School. Carolyn moved in with her Foster Parents, Deacon Lee E. and Evang. Mary L. Lively and family as she begins to embrace her relationship with the Lord. At the age of 14, she received the baptism of the Holy Ghost at Zion Tabernacle Apostolic Church, Indianapolis, IN. As a member of Zion, she sang in the Zion Tabernacle Choir and was active in the youth department. She also sang with the Indiana State Mass and the Central District Choir before she married and moved to Ohio.
In September 1963, she married the love of her life, Bobby Gene Walker. To this union, six sons were born. As a young couple, they were in love and were dedicated to building a productive family. They supported their children and made the necessary sacrifices to ensure their success in life. They were members of Bethlehem Temple Church, Middletown, Ohio, after they married. In the coming years, they joined Bibleway in Oxford, Ohio, Pastor Lenora Jenkins. It was there she received the foundational teaching of Holiness and principles of the Apostolic Doctrine.
Evang. Walker, in her earlier ministry, traveled extensively across the state and throughout the country preaching and proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ. She preached and prayed for many people for salvation, healing, and deliverance. She was a Licensed and Ordained Evangelist/Pastor in the Ohio District Council of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. for over 50 years.
She was blessed to have a covenant sister in ministry, Pastor Joann Love, who shared a similar passion for the evangelistic ministry, and the 2 made a powerful impact in whatever services they attended. She was also an anointed Praise Service Leader and Soloist and was called on often to MC Services and Programs, adding her special touch to make sure we had a good church. She frequented Sunday night services at Zion Temple Pentecostal, Greater Emanuel Apostolic Temple, Christ Temple Apostolic Faith Church, Isle of Patmos, Shiloh Holiness Tabernacle, and Bethel Pentecostal Temple, and was known as some of the stomping grounds for having “Church”. As time progressed in her Ministry, she and her family worshipped with Bethesda Temple Apostolic Church under the pastorate of Sfg. Bishop J. T. Jones. She was faithful and served on the Ministerial Alliance and Music Ministry.
In the early 2000s, she and her husband, Deacon Walker, founded Haven of Rest Apostolic Church. As a Pastor, she was diligent and committed to the ministry. She served the community of Middletown well through revivals and outreach programs. She wanted to see the city saved and was fervent in prayer and fasting. She pastored for over 20 years through good times and challenges, but was relentless in maintaining her Pastoral assignment until her health failed. Carolyn was loved and respected as the Matriarch of her family, the Pastor of Haven of Rest, and a trusted, loyal, and comical friend at all times.
She was preceded in death by her Husband, Deacon Bobby Walker, Sr., and 3 sisters, Lois Green, Mary Frazier, and Joanne Stoval.
She leaves to cherish her memories of a productive and fruitful life: six sons, Bobby Jr., Christopher, Burton (Sandy), Chalandon (Crystal) Brittany and Carrington (Toni); grandchildren, Makala, Christian, Chris, Tyla, CJ, Jordan, Jayden, Cameron, Malia, Jarrett and Robert (Sarah) and Caiden and 5 Great- Grand Children One brother, James (Jackie) MaGee, many nieces and nephews, extended family: the Lively’s, the Dixon’s, Patricia and Beatrice Keeton, Nathan Lofton, Edna Richardson, Charlene Johnson and countless friends her brothers and sisters in the body of Christ at large.
