Obituary

Bruce was a native of Gallipolis, Ohio, attended Gallia Academy where he excelled in baseball, track and football. He is a graduate of The Ohio State University earning an athletic scholarship. Bruce was a proud member of several award-winning "Buckeye" football teams including the 1968 National Championship Football team. Bruce was preceded in death by his mother, Leona F. Smith. He is survived by his father, Kenton Smith, his wife, Sheila Williams, daughter Bethany Smith Moore (Jawanza), son Kevin B. Smith and granddaughters, Leah and Brianna Moore. He is also survived by his sister Lisa Smith (Steven Hecker) and brothers Kent Smith and Leon Smith, many nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and former OSU teammates. A benefits administration professional, Bruce's career included stints at companies including Borden, Countrymark and Lear Corp. At the time of his death, he was the Director of Benefits for Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, Kentucky. An avid golfer, Bruce enjoyed sports events and travel especially when he created the itineraries! But his favorite relaxation pastime was sitting on his porch, puffing on a cigar and tasting his favorite bourbon. A private visitation for the family will take place on Friday, June 24 2022. At a later date, the family will host a celebration of Bruce's life. For those wishing to honor Bruce's life, please consider a contribution to The Northern Kentucky University Development Fund (www.nku.edu) or St. Paul's Episcopal Church-Newport Food Pantry, 7 Court Street, Newport, KY 41071 or a charity of your choice.
