IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara Jean
Rogers Huckaby Clark
August 16, 1932 – October 21, 2024
Barbara Jean Rogers Clark started her cycle around the sun on August 16, 1932. She was born in Cincinnati to the union of Talmer Rodgers and Rosa McClure Rodgers Clay. She transitioned back to God on October 21, 2024, leaving a legacy of love, grace and determination.
She was raised by her grandparents, Samuel and Katie McClure and aunt, Eula Mae Warren. She attended Cincinnati Public Schools and graduated from Walnut Hills High School at the age of 16. She continued her education at Edgecliff College and The University of Cincinnati.
Baptized at an early age, she joined The Church of the Living God (C.W.F.F.) (located at Forest and Harvey Avenue) where she served for 80 years. She sang in the choir and served as an usher. She also supported the Y.P.P.U., Women's Work, and was the first female member of the C.W.F.F. trustee board.
She married Walter Lee Huckaby Sr. on January 1, 1953. Their union was blessed with five children. Many years later, she married William Louis Clark on November 14, 1992. Barbara was the epitome of a phenomenal woman who successfully balanced family and career. She was the most excellent mother of five children: Assim Nadir (Tracy) Shadee, formerly Derrick Leland Huckaby, Allison Huckaby, Walter Lee (Marilyn) Huckaby Jr., Barbara Lynn Huckaby and Lawrence Christopher (LaShawn) Huckaby Sr. She was also greatly loved and admired by 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She was a loving sister to Michael Rodgers, Vera Benton, Tony Rodgers, David Rodgers, Pat Rodgers, Rochelle Rodgers, Lolita Rodgers, and Sam Rodgers.
Barbara was a guiding light to her family and her impactful career continues to improve the lives of others. She founded and directed The Early Childhood Development Center program at the Church of the Living God (C.W.F.F.) which continues to serve the community. She made history with Mutual of Omaha by becoming the first African- American woman insurance agent. In her later years, she opened her home to provide childcare for the community and her grandchildren.
Barbara was a force of nature, unstoppable and undeterrable. She was civil rights activist and successfully obtained federal grants to support the church's daycare. She mentored and encouraged others in areas of their lives…. meeting people where they were.
She was a lover of the arts, an avid reader, researcher and fashionista. Her presence was a beacon of light in the storm of life, and her profound wisdom was a guiding counsel for us all. Her telling eyes, gregarious laughter, and warm smile will be carried in the hearts and minds of all who knew, loved, and admired her. Light, peace and progress as she makes her transition to heaven.
