Andrew Thompson peacefully transitioned to Heaven on November 9, 2022. He leaves to cherish his memory his son Lenny and a host of other family members and friends. He was 97 years old. Preceding him in death were his wife Dorothy, sons Michael and Dennis, and his daughter Debbie Johnson; sisters Nancy Roberta Willis, Martha Booker and his brother James Rufus "Buster" Thompson. The Son of the late D.C. and Minnie Coelia Thompson, Andrew was born on January 12, 1925. He accepted Christ at an early age and was educated in the Hamilton City School system. Following high school he was drafted into the United States Navy where he faithfully served during World War II. He also attended Miami University. Following his years in the military Andrew began his career at Champion Paper, located in Hamilton Ohio. One of his most proud accomplishments was integrating Champion by hiring numerous ethnically diverse employees. Following his marriage to Dorothy, he joined Second Baptist Church of College Hill where he was an active member for over 50 years; he served in numerous capacities including as a Deacon. Known as the family historian, Andrew spent numerous hours educating younger family members on their lineage from Morgan County, Georgia. In addition, he spoke fondly of connecting with his brother "Buster" in Europe during World War II after not seeing him for five years. After Andrew returned from the military, his brother took a look at him as said, "he did not look well." Buster took him the VA, where he was diagnosed with tuberculosis. He was operated on three times and lost six ribs and half of his lung. He stayed in the hospital for 29 months. After his discharge from the hospital,, he took a job at Champion International Paper, Hamilton, Oh., where he worked for 36 years. When he started the job he was told by a man, "n**** as long as you're here you will be on that broom. We had to hire one of you. Five years later, Andrew Thompson became the first black supervisor in the history of Champion Paper Co. One of his most proud accomplishments was integrating Champion by hiring numerous ethnically diverse employees. In September 2019, Andrew had the privilege of participating in the Honor Flight to Washington DC for WWII Veterans and was featured in local television news and newspapers. Survivors include his loyal son Lenny, his niece/caregivers Stacy and Benjamin Speare-Hardy: nieces Gladys J Willis and Felma Wood.
