Omega Lee Alice Butler

March 14, 1930 - May 21, 2014

Mrs. Omega Lee Alice Butler (nee Brinkley), known as “Lee Alice” was born On March 14, 1930 in Whitehouse, Tennessee to Ewing & Lucille Brinkley. On May 21, 2014, she heard the flutter of Angel’s wings…and went home to be with the Lord. Lee Alice grew up in Whitehouse with her two siblings. Her family later moved to Hendersonville, Tennessee. Her mother passed when she was five years old and she was turned over to the loving arms of her grandparents, William & Novella Holder.   Lee Alice learned the love of the Lord, faith and courage from her grandmother. When she was nine years old, her grandmother also took over the raising of her dear first cousins, who were like sisters, Jessie Mae Jones (who preceded her in death ) and Betty Kennedy of Nashville, Tennessee.   As a young woman, Lee Alice moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where she met her future husband, Eugene Emanuel Butler, Jr. The Butlers were married on December 27, 1948. To this union, three children were born. Her beloved Eugene preceded her in death September of 1980 after 32 years of marriage.   After moving to Cincinnati, she joined The First Baptist Church, West College Hill on May 26, 1950 under the leadership of the late Rev. Edward Jones, Sr., She was active in many church ministries and ended her servitude as one of the oldest living ushers at First Baptist Church. She also sang in the choir and served as vice president of the usher board and program chairman. Lee Alice loved her church and was active until her health failed. Her love was ushering and serving as a “Doorkeeper in the House of the Lord” and in the church kitchen. Lee Alice also enjoyed membership in various clubs, including the Socialites and Close Encounters. Every year for 25 years, the ??? club would sponsor an all-day-event that included meals for all senior citizens in the Tri-State area. The dinners were always held at the home of the late Juanita Bishop Lewis. For those who could not attend, the club members would pay for transportation for any senior who wanted to be included.   She was a board member of The Board of the Community Action Commission, The American Legion, The West College Hill Civic Association, The Edward Jones Terrace Association. And her “helping hands” was extended to anyone in need.   . Lee Alice would always offer her services to clean people’s houses, many times for free. If she felt someone was in need, she would give her last dollar and was always feeding people. She was a sacrificing mother and she was “the Best Mother.” No one cared about people like Lee Alice. She had a beautiful smile and was always smiling. She opened her home to the homeless and was continually helping people. She loved a good party, had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tell jokes. Her favorite motto that she taught her children and grandchildren was: “Nothing Beats a Failure But a Try!” She did not believe in ever giving up. She was preceded in death by Her brother: Rev. Ray Hudson of Indianapolis, Indiana; one special best friend ( who was like a sister) Eva Jane Fitzgerald, who preceded her in death. A special friend Juanita Bishop Lewis who also preceded her in death   She leaves to mourn and cherish her life, her three children: Regina Butler Wynn, David Herschel Butler and Patrice Lee Butler ; eight grandchildren, Ijnanya Lear-Wilson (Kenneth); Tenika Renee Butler, Janay Michelle Butler, Damon Butler, Eugene Butler, Raymond Cole Eugene Wynn, Aisha Butler and David Herschel Butler, Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Drew and Ty Lear-Wilson and Ty’aunna Nicole Butler; one sister, Anna Bell Seay of Nashville, Tennessee; three brother-in-laws, Phillip Butler, Dwight (Rhodi) Butler and Andrew Price; four sister-in-laws, Alberta Butler Murrell, Mary Ellen Butler, Willa Mae Butler and Grace Butler Nash and dear nieces, Deidre and Kim Seay of Nashville, Tennessee.
