Celebrating His Spirit

Leonard Noel Hawkins, 74, was born on April 28, 1947 to the union of Jannie (nee Goforth) and Arsby Hawkins. He departed this life on April 26, 2022 into the arms of The Lord.
Leonard, the Hawkins' second oldest child, grew up in Cincinnati and attended Cincinnati Public Schools. He graduated from Withrow High School and continued his education at The University of Cincinnati, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree. He served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1972. His military occupation speciality was a tele type intercept operator. His duties took him to Asmara Ethiopia (Kagnew Station) and stateside. He treasured his military experience and considered his service in Ethiopia, "transforming."
After receiving an honorable discharge, Leonard returned to Cincinnati and worked for General Electric Co. for over 25 years. Leonard remained a dedicated veteran for the rest of his life. He was just as dedicated to his family.
Leonard's quiet, steadfast strength was treasured and admired by his entire family. He was a loving, protective big brother as well as a supportive uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He loved all forms of music. In his early years, he enjoyed playing the baritone horn and trombone. He also enjoyed singing tenor in the First Baptist Church and community choirs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jannie and Arsby Hawkins; his sister, Audree Faulkner and brother, Melvin Hawkins.
Leonard's memory will be kept alive by his sister, Barbara Hawkins Cooper; nephew, Jerome (Monica) Cooper ; niece, Tiffany Cooper; nephew, Malcolm (Meghan) Cooper. He will also be remembered by a host of great-nieces, great -nephews and a host of friends.
