Jimmie Lee Bell

May 6, 1948 - February 17, 2014

Jimmie Lee Bell Jr. was born on May 6, 1948 to the union of Elven and Jimmie Lee Bell Sr. He departed this life, surrounded by his loving family, at 2:30 p.m., Feb. 17, 2014. Jimmie grew up in Cincinnati and attended Cincinnati Public Schools, graduating from Walnut Hills High School. He continued his education at Bluffton University, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in 1970. After graduating from Bluffton, Jimmie married Sherry Ann Titsworth on August 11, 1973. It was a love affair that lasted nearly 41 years. Their union was blessed with three sons, Dustin, Jimmie Lee Bell III and Christopher Bell, along with a large, loving extended family and friends. Jimmie was a beloved husband, son, brother, father, uncle, cousin and friend . He went out of his way to help anyone he could. He was an avid reader, poet, traveler and lover of jazz. He also loved participating in sports and had a special passion for football, tennis and bowling. As a life-long educator, Jimmie touched countless young lives in and out of the classroom. Jimmie, known as “Mr. Bell,” to his students, started his teaching career for the Springfield Public School System. He later joined Cincinnati Public Schools as an English teacher. He taught at Bloom Elementary, West High, Withrow, Aiken and Taft High Schools,. He retired from Taft due to illness. In his spare time, Jimmie loved working on old cars…a passion that grew into a used car dealership. He also sold medical supplies during his career and operated his own computer business. He was preceded in death by his parents , Elven and Jimmie Lee Bell, and siblings; Lee Bell, Mary Jackson, Joe Louis and LeVonne Schneider. Jimmie is survived by his loving wife, Sherry; three sons, Dustin, Jimmie Lee Bell III and Christopher Bell; siblings, Edith (Willie Sr.) Carter, Connie (Cedric) Williams, Ronda Bell, Denice Murray, Rickie (Beverly) Bell; six grandchildren, Dustin, Jasmine, David, Christopher, Michael and Sarion; mother-in-law, Evelyn Titsworth; two uncles, David McMullen and Rev. John E. McMullen; sister-in-laws, Gina Pope Wilkins and Karen Titsworth. He will also be dearly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
