Celebrating His Spirit James, affectionately known as “Bommie,” was born on November 18, 1954 to the union of the late James Thomas Sr. and Nancy Thomas. He departed this life on Saturday, June 22, 2013 in Cincinnati, Ohio to be with The Lord. Bommie grew up in Addyston, Ohio and graduated from Taylor High School . He attended Phillips Chapel Church in Addyston as a youth and young man, where he enjoyed worship and singing in the choir. His favorite song was “Stand by Me,” forwhich he was the lead singer. After holding a variety of jobs, Bommie decided to serve his country in the U.S. Army and The U.S. Navy. Following his military service, he joined the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) on January 19, 1988 as a Realty Specialist #2. He worked as a property agent for 25 years. He enjoyed working with property owners and considered it the “high lite” of his job. He retired from ODOT on January 1, 2013. Most of Bommie’s friends would describe him as “peculiar,” and very generous to all that were in his circle. Although Bommie had no children, he was a devoted father figure to Aisha, David, Malika, Aisa, and Mike, the children and grandchildren of his sister Rose who he was very devoted to and protective of. James, Jr. was preceded by his father James, Sr. in February of this year. He leaves to celebrate his memory his mother, Nancy Thomas; sisters, Rose Thomas Butler and Linda Thomas of Cincinnati, OH; brothers, Jeffrey (Lori) Thomas, Nathaniel, Christopher Thomas all of Addyston, OH; great uncle of nine, great great uncle of eight, many cousins, and other very special family and friends.
