Celebrating Her Spirit . . . .
Gail Marie (Hill) Hayes was born on August 25, 1943 to the union of Percy Hill and Dorothy Smith-Williams. She departed this life on October 3, 2015 into the arms of The Lord.
Gail, the eldest of eight children, grew up in Cincinnati and attended Cincinnati Public Schools. Following her graduation from Withrow High School in 1961, she married her child-hood sweetheart Charles Hayes. Their union was blessed with three daughters, Cherri who died at birth, Sheila and LaDonna .
She was an outspoken individual who was full of motherly wisdom. Gail was strong-willed and loved life and her family. She went out of her way to care for those she loved and gave 150 percent of herself whenever called upon. She loved shopping and enjoyed "dressing well," in her hats and matching accessories. Gail was naturally gifted as a seamstress. She made clothes for herself and others, including performers Midnight Star. Gail, a "lady of all trades," was hardworking, outspoken and enjoyed being a mother, sister and teacher.
She worked as a license beautician at the former Sally's Beauty Salon for more than five years. During that time, she also held a full-time position as a phlebotomist at Jewish Hospital, where she worked for nearly 12 years. Gail joined Zion Baptist Church under Pastor James H. Cantrell on November 22, 1998; she was a long-standing member of Zion Baptist Church, where she was active on the Ushers Board, Nurses Guild, Knitting Club, the pastor's aide society and made flowers & corsages for special events. Gail was also a member of The St. John Chapter of Eastern Star, Jeanie D. Porter Elks, Daughters of Isis and the Red Hats Society
She was preceded in death by her daughter Cherri, who died as an infant. Her loving memory will always be cherished by her daughters, Ladonna and Sheila Hayes; five grandchildren, Tikheta, Stephen, LaTrisha, Shawnita, Christiana; 12 great-grandchildren; seven siblings, Darryl (Juanita) Hill, Michele Cornelius, Sandra Dill, Duwan Williams, Darrich Williams, Seton Williams and Tiffany Conners. Gail will also be greatly missed by a host of other relatives, cousins and friends.
