Celebrating His Spirit . . . .
Douglas Lee Crooks Sr. was born on September 17, 1946 to the union of Leoma and Frank Crooks. He was called home to Glory on Saturday, July 11, 2020.

Douglas was educated in the Cincinnati Public Schools and graduated from Woodward High School in 1964. After high school, he was hired by the former Shillitos Department Store as a sketch artist in the advertising department. He also worked at Larricks Panasonic, installing stereo systems. His work career also included employment with The State of Georgia's infrastructure system, building highways.

Douglas, who was mostly self-taught, was an expert regarding computers, electronics, photography and was extremely gifted as an artist. He played the guitar and played the trumpet in the high school band. He had a passion for nature, plants, animals, and vintage cars. He mastered various art forms... it just came naturally. He also was a gifted poet and loved his tacos and cream soda.

In 1969 he married Juwanna Gillispie, and their union was blessed with three children, Danielle, Douglas, and Kendra. He remarried in 1992 and lived in Anderson, SC briefly before returning to Cincinnati OH in 2002.
Douglas peacefully departed this life to be with the Lord at Mercy Health Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank, and Leoma Crooks; his sister, Betty Crooks (Cobb) and his nephew, Jeffrey L. Bell.

Douglas leaves to cherish his loving memories, three children: Danielle Crooks-Bolles (Myron) of St. Helena Island, SC, Douglas Crooks Jr. (Renee) and Kendra Crooks of Dayton, OH. His siblings: Patricia Crooks of Peoria, AZ and Richard Crooks of Minot, ND; eight grandchildren: Jonee, Marc II, Charmaine, Ryan, Jermaine Jr., Zaire, Maliah and Dougie III; twenty great-grandchildren; Niece and nephews: Richard Jr., Michael, Cory, Jeremy, Anthony and Laura. Although he was not his biological son, he loved and cared for Jonathan Crooks (Victoria) of Dayton, OH as well.
