Celebrating Her Spirit
Brigitte Roswitha Hill was born on January 16, 1949 to the union of Bruno Paul and Christel Ursala (Schwertz) Herkt in Kellinghusen, West Germany. She departed this life, surrounded by the love of her family, on November 15, 2015 at the age of 66.
She grew up in West Germany, where she attended the John F. Kennedy School. She left home at an early age, determined to see the world. Brigitte, who has lived all over the United States, decided to make Cincinnati her permanent home several years ago. Upon her arrival to Cincinnati, she met Ester Smith and her children, all of whom became "family" to Brigitte. Their special relationship also provided a loving family to Brigitte's daughter, Jennifer.
Brigitte worked for most of her adult life in the hospitality industry. She was an outstanding waitress and worked for years at Cincinnati's key restaurants such as The Mike Fink, Black Forest, Coach & Four and the Rib Pit. Brigitte met her current husband, George Hill, while working in banquets at The Holiday Inn. The couple married in the early 1990s and lived happily until her passing.
She was a wonderful cook, a great listener and conversationalist. Brigitte was also a great friend and a very caring person. She opened her heart and home to everyone she met. And her caring heart went beyond family and friends.
She enjoyed helping people with special needs and worked with them regularly until she became ill.
Brigitte was preceded in death by her father, Christal and a young daughter, Tonya. Her kind, loving spirit will always be cherished by her husband, George Hill; mother, Ursula Schwertz; children, Jennifer Jones, Kischa Booker, Michael Hagstrom, Michelle Hagstrom, Keith Hines/Hill and Kevin Hines/Hill; her siblings, Wolfgang, Sylvia and Rainey.
She will also be dearly missed by grandchildren, Paris, Corey, Jerry Griffin, Kymball Griffin, Keziah Mathis, Ki'Shan Harshaw, Kiamani Jackson; aunts, Denise Malone, Tina Lee, Cheryl Hawkins; mother-in-law, Mary James; cousins, Lisa James, Greg James, Mica Hawkins, Nisha Hawkins and Patrick Herk; sister-in-laws, Valerie (Ricky) Smith, Veronica Martin, Souja (Andre) Hodrick, Ester Smith, Tracey McKinny, Levern Washington, Amelia Hill, Alesia Hill; brother-in-laws, Martin Donald Smith, Deddrick, Neil, Denzel; nephews, Brian (Cherlene), Brandon, Damien "DB", Carlos, Bradley, Jay, Derrick, Brian Jr. and James Davis and Johnny Hill; nieces, Vernice, DeAmber, Shamaya, Ravin. She will also be missed by countless other great nieces, nephews and friends.
