Thomas Burr Obituary

Celebrating Spirit
Thomas Andrew Burr was born on April 18, 1918 on Elmore Street (South Cumminsville) in Cincinnati, Ohio. Tom went home to be with the Lord on March 24, 2015 at the Fort Tyron Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing located in New York, New York.
He was the middle child of the five children of the late Calvin and Elizabeth Warren Burr. His memory will be cherished by his only living sister Martha Alice Burr Fletcher.
He was preceded in death by his older brothers Calvin Warren, William Everett (Bus) and his younger sibling John Clifford. Tom had a twin cousin, the late Clarissa (Chris) Nichols Jorden, and the family stories tell of how the doctor ran between the two houses assisting in both deliveries. Tom was educated in the Cincinnati Public School System before entering military service with the United States Army. He was a World War II veteran and served in North Africa and Italy during his tour of duty.
Tom was twice married. His first wife was the late Pearl Burr and much later in life he married the late Jan Emma Montgomery Burr.
His children are all grown and reside throughout the United States. He was a devoted uncle to his nieces and nephews and to their children and grandchildren. As an adult, Tom lived in Ohio and several other states including New Jersey, New York and Florida. Tom worked for many years, retiring from the Singer Sewing Machine Company in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
For a number of years, Tom was actively involved in organizing and attending the Burr Family Reunion. He was always recognized as the longest-living member of the Burr family. Tom loved to travel and always drove. Assisting him on one of his last trips was his daughter, Ann Burr Burns and her husband, Bill.
Tom leaves to cherish his memories a devoted sister, Martha Alice Burr Fletcher, his children, nieces, nephews and scores of faithful cousins and friends.
