Lacey Espie Obituary

Celebrating Her Spirit . . . .
Lacey Marie Espie was born on Nov. 12, 1951 in Birmingham, AL, the second of nine children blessed to Dovie Armstrong. She departed this life on Sept. 17, 2016.
Lacey was a young child when she and her brother, Charles, moved to Cincinnati from Alabama with their mother to begin a new life. She attended Taft Elementary School, Heinold Jr. High School and graduated from Quarter Tech High School. In August of 1970, Lacey gave birth to a bouncing baby boy, Charles Michael Espie, affectionately known as "Little Charles." Charles and Lacey's mother Dovie C. Armstrong, preceded her in death, along with her step-father, Ralph Hines; grandparents, Eugene and Ella Maye Espie; brother, Charles Walter Espie; sister, Glenda Faye Armstrong-Cordell; aunt, Sarah Gladis Cook; cousins, Jarmel Lacky and Kenneth Espie, one niece, LaToya Hayes, three nephews, Joseph Reno Armstrong, Jr., Bryant and Ryan Hayes.
Lacey was a lover of life and she believed in living life to the fullest, which she did consistently. She always had a smile on her face and was known for her infectious laughter. She was strong, loving and caring, yet independent, strong willed and outspoken. Lacey had a special place in her heart for children and enjoyed spoiling all of her nieces and nephews. Her grandchildren were extremely special to her and her love for them was unconditional. Lacey always went above and beyond for her grandchildren and there was nothing she would not do for them.
Lacey had an "open-door policy" for family and friends. She would never turn her back on anyone who needed a place to lay their head. If she did not have room she would make room, sometimes giving up her own bed to sleep on the sofa.
She became a member of the New St Paul Missionary Baptist Church in 2005, where she attended regularly until her health began to fail. Lacey tragically had to endure the death of her only son, Charles Michael Espie on April 17, 2005. Her joy was gone and no matter how normal she tried to be, normalcy was always overshadowed by a grief she could not shake. On Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 at The University of Cincinnati Hospital, Lacey Marie Espie succumbed to her broken heart and went on to glory.
Lacey leaves to cherish her memory four sisters, Julie (Gerald) Lilly, Susan Armstrong, Verna (Robert) Armstrong Woods and Vanessa McWhorter; two brothers, Joseph (Marilyn) Armstrong and Terry (Beverly) Armstrong; eight grandchildren, Zack Richardson, Lakeyshia Marie Espie, Tanisha Michelle Grey-Espie, Charles Michael Espie Jr., Devin Deon Espie, Celonna Myelle Stanley-Espie, Jaylen Camonte Espie and Jamiyah Trenice Espie; three great-great grandchildren, Markayla Alexander, Mark Alexander and Zoey Richardson one aunt and uncle, Eugenia Faye and Calvin Green of Anderson, Ind. Lacey will also be dearly missed by a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
