Celebrating His Spirit
Delano Lavada Johnson, 54, was born on June 6, 1961 to the union of Nelson Mott and Arelia Brown. He departed this life into the arms of The Lord on Oct. 9, 2015 in Lexington, Kentucky.
Delano was born in Lexington and moved to Cincinnati with his family at a young age. He attended Vine Street Hill Elementary, Cutter Jr. High School. After attending Taft High School. Delano received his GED a few years later.
He enjoyed working various jobs, ranging from day care centers (he loved children) to local factories. Delano was the life of anyone's party and kept everyone laughing. He created funny catch phrases, loved to dance, do hair and earned a reputation for being an excellent cook. He never met a stranger and went out of his way to help people without ever being judgmental.
Although Delano grew up in Cincinnati, he always felt that Lexington was his home. He moved to Lexington nearly eight years ago. He had a host of friends and several sisters in Lexington who considered him "family." Due to his disability he was unable to work several years.
He was preceded in death by his father Nelson. His memory will be cherished by his mother, Arelia (Willie) Brown; three brothers, Derrick Johnson, Tony (Gwen) Hampton and Kellen (Jasmine) Brown; special cousin, Kevin (Shelley) Jones; seven sisters, Rochelle McNeal, Lavonnia Taylor (Robert) Brown, Angela Taylor, Cheryl Johnson, Thelisa (Roosevelt) Johnson, Tina Franklin and Tracy Carpenter. He will also be dearly missed by a host of nieces, nephews and great nieces, nephews and friends.
